GLENDOWER 2025

SPONSORED READATHON

Monday 24th February – Friday 7th March 2025

This year, we are excited to once again be running the Glendower Sponsored Readathon Challenge in support of our bursary campaign. Copies of the Readathon Sponsorship Form and the Readathon Record Sheet have been sent home with the girls, so they can start collecting sponsorship.

Readathon Overview
The idea of a Readathon is that the girls read or are read to as much as possible during the 10-day challenge, and engage with the challenge in a fun and creative way

Who Are the Girls Raising Money For?
The Glendower readathon is in support of our Bursary Campaign: Together for Tomorrow. Glendower envisions a future where all deserving girls have access to an exceptional education, regardless of their financial background. Glendower is committed to providing means-tested financial support to girls in our community who earn their place at Glendower Preparatory School, regardless of their family's financial circumstances.

Sponsor Details:
Girls can ask family and friends to sponsor them by writing their pledge on the Readathon Sponsorship Form. We suggest sponsoring a certain amount (up to you) per 5- or 10-minutes reading. This depends on the age and reading skill of the child. For example, they could ask people for £1 for every 5 minutes reading. The more time they read and the more sponsors they find, the more money they will raise.

What and Where Should They Read?
Girls can read or be read to from home on anything they like; books, comics, magazines, newspapers, recipe books, instruction manuals, or ingredients on cereal packets - the possibilities are endless! House points will be awarded to the pupil in each class who reads most. Girls are also encouraged to read in strange and imaginative places. House points will be awarded in each class to the pupil who sends in a photo of the most imaginative reading place.

A Note for Nursery & Reception Pupils ONLY:
In Nursery and Reception many of the girls are still learning to read so we have designed a special Reading Bingo Challenge for them instead. Girls will be challenged to complete the reading tasks on the bingo sheet with an adult. House points will be awarded to girls that completed the entire bingo board.

There is also an empty bingo box for girls to come up with their own creative reading challenge and add it to their bingo sheet. Each class will award House points to the pupil with the most imaginative bingo reading challenge, so please send photos in.

How Do They Record Their Reading?
On the Readathon Record Sheet, the girls record how many minutes they have read each day for 10 days. Please note they require an adult signature. They do not use their reading record books for the Readathon.

When and what do we send into school? How do we donate?

Please return completed Readathon Record Sheets AND Sponsorship Forms to class teachers on Monday 10th March. Please collect the sponsorship money yourself and send it into school in a named envelope addressed to the Bursary. You can also make donations online using this link.

We also encourage parents to take photos of their child reading in strange and imaginative places and send them to us throughout the Readathon via development@glendowerconnect.org.
